Inscribed, signed, and dated (1894) in pencil by the author on the rear pastedown. Dark blue boars with gilt flower/moon design and title in gilt to front, and gilt title to spin. Light rubbing to extremities; corners are nudged. Shelfwear to top/bottom of spine. Sunning to spine. Previous owner's elaborate signature and address in red script to page 13. Age-toning to pages. James Henry Cousins (1873 - 1946) was an Irish writer, playwright, actor, critic, editor, teacher and poet. He used several pseudonyms including Mac Oisín, and the Hindu name Jayaram. Ben Madighan was his first publication. Advertising at rear promotes classes in short-hand and typing, taught by James H. Cousins (a "representative of Remmington Typewriters").
