183pp, index, illustrated, bibliography, dark green pebbled cloth with gilt titles, extremities lightly worn, light splotching at rear cover. Inscribed, signed, and dated by the author to Desha Breckinridge, of the KY Breckinridge family. See Coleman's Bibliography of KY History #2847. A good regional history with chapters devoted to The Wilderness, First Explorations, Border Warfare, Log Cabin Struggle, Religious Developments, and Social and Economic Expansion. Jillson was Kentucky's State Geologist and a prolific writer on Kentucky history. Desha Breckinridge (1867 - 1935), was a prominent Kentuckian who was the owner of the Lexington Herald newspaper and an active horseman, who helped create the state racing commission. He and his wife, Madeline McDowell, were leaders of the Progressive movement in Kentucky.
