First Edition. Bound in full blue dark green leather, gilt rules on covers, gilt titles on spine. Tall 8vo., original covers bound in fully uncut. With a large gelatin photograph of Joaquin Miller tipped onto the front free endpaper marked "Rice-Berkeley." Tipped onto the front pastedown is a contemporary bookplate marked "Tufts." Laid in is a 3 page also, signed by Joaquin Miller, dated 10-26-03, in original envelope address to Mrs. Tufts. The letter is personal and relates to a breakfast attended by both. Miller, known as the "Poet of the Sierras," was born in 1837 and died in 1913. A unique copy with an exceptional photograph of the elder bearded Miller. BAL 13855. Plastic cover for protection in a custom-made slipcase.
