Inscribed First Edition, First Printing -- also including a hand-written letter by Justice William O Douglas -- of this account of an early 1950s expedition to the Himalayas and Central Asia by the adventurous Justice. Inscribed by Justice William O. Douglas on the half title page to a U.S. State Department official in Burma who provided support and assistance to the journey. In addition, there is a handwritten letter on U.S. Supreme Court letterhead from Justice Douglas to the official, again expressing thanks for services related to the journey. Cloth, 352 pages, illustrated. The book has a bit of foxing on the covers and some dampstaining on the bottom corner of the fore edge of the pages. The dust jacket has edge wear including paper loss on the fore edge and a chip on the back flap. Seller Inventory # 014357
