Ernest Frederic Neve (1861-1946) was a British surgeon, Christian medical missionary, and author who provided medical care to the people of Kashmir. He established the Kashmir Mission Hospital and the Kashmir State Leper Hospital with his brother Arthur Neve and made significant contributions to the healthcare facilities in Kashmir. His object in this book has been to combine and to set forth the great variety of interests in Kashmir, and the chief characteristics of the central and outlying valleys with their widely distributed inhabitants. A record has been included of several climbs on the higher peaks and of journeys by upland routes, in order to give an account of the extensive mountain ranges which form so large a part of Kashmir. Chapter on the Mission Hospital describe the efforts made to improve the moral and physical condition of the people. The book is bound in the original grey cloth covered boards with brown titling on the spine and brown titling with a colour illustration on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling on the boards. The bottom front corner and spine ends are bumped. The contents are tight and clean apart from some scattered but mostly light foxing. The half-title page and last four page of the index are more heavily foxed. The author has flat-signed the title-page and there is an inscription on the front fixed endpaper and a quote in a decorative hand from Browning on the front free endpaper.
