First edition hard back binding in publisher's original black cloth covered boards, blocked and lettered gilt back. 8vo. 9'' x 5½''. Roy born in 1924 added three years to his age and was only 15 when he joined the RAF as an Air Gunner, two years later his Wellington Bomber was shot down over North Africa and he became a prisoner of war of the Italians. He was punished cruelly for his escape attempts, by now having reached the age of 17, he eventually succeeded and made his way to Rome. He was one of the youngest recipients of the Military Medal and promoted for his courageous escape attempts. Contains 158 pp, double-page map. Fine condition book in very near Fine condition dust wrapper. SIGNED by the author to the title page 'Roy Marlow.' Dust wrapper supplied in archive acetate film protection. Member of the P.B.F.A.
