He was later stationed in Tehran and Panama. He has treated patients throughout the Middle East and in Central and South America. The author and his wife spent over twenty years in private practice and then returned to government service overseas for a while before returning to their home in California. In this work, the author brings together two years of personal journals, flight logs, musings and medical notes collected in the Alice, the heart of the continent we call Australia. As an American civilian and physician serving in the Aeromedical Service of the Royal Flying Doctors, Rutten mingles with and heals the superstitious aboriginals in the outback.
