New cloth binding and endpapers, solid text block. Free of any marks or notations. Signatures in pencil on two front flyleaves. From the collection of Charles D. Hilles, with his laid-in card. A unique collection of signatures from the 1916 New York Republican Convention, where Elihu Root was an early favorite, but later withdrew due to his age. This piece is signed by the following political notables: Elihu Root (Secretary of State), Henry L. Stimson (Secretary of State / Secretary of War), Otto T. Bannard (President of New York Trust Company), William Barnes Jr. (Owner of Albany Evening Journal and a Republican Power Broker), Cornelius N. Bliss Jr. (Philanthropist), Rep. John Wilbur Dwight (New York), Charles D. Hilles (Chairman of the Republican National Committee), George R. Sheldon (Treasurer of the Republican National Committee), Rep. Robert L.
