Dust jacket show some edge-chipping; general soiling; in an archival mylar sleeve. pp. viii, 306. Rare. A novel about the First World War and the experiences of American soldiers in France, written by a veteran saw action in the Meuse-Argonne offensive. The story, seen from the eyes of a private, conveys the senseless chaos of war and the physical and moral degradation that accompanies it, from trench life and hand-to-hand fighting to military pomp and the vain-glory of death. A rare copy of this war novel. George L. Godfrey (1897-1955) was a resident of Columbus, Ohio. A refrigeration sales supervisor by day with the Suburban Electric Development Company, he wrote Bonds in Common at night in his leisure time and sold these books himself, with the help of the American Legion, out of a vacant store in the Grand Theater building [ref: Columbus Evening Dispatch, Oct 17, 1931, p. 16].
