Chicago: Lakeside Press 1899, first edition. Very large paper-covered boards in poor condition. Binding spine has separated from the signatures, first three pages (including title page) are loose, covers are faded, soiled & very worn. Pages are in good condition with a few having minor smudging. 10.5 x 14 in., unpaginated. Richardson was a leading illustrator, working at the Chicago Daily News in the late 1800s. He is known for the fine detail in his art nouveau-inspired work. This is a collection of his work for the newspaper, presented in very large format. The prints all are from 1897 to 1899. Laid in are 4 original ink drawings (see scans); NOTE THAT THESE ARE NOT BY RICHARDSON. They all appear to be by the same artist; 2 of them are signed 'Rosalma Phippeny'. Three are approx. 10 x 7 in., one is 10.5 x 12 in. and is quite worn at the edges (image is undamaged).
