When the Doubleday 'adult' version was published, Doubleday asked Markus to sign 3,000 copies! he was led to a room with all 3,000 copies. He decided the only way he would accomplish this was to leave his characteristic 'doodle' off. So, then, this copy is almost assuredly one of the first 3,000 copies ever signed, especially since it comes with the very difficult to find bookmark. Now, the book: Hardcovers are fine, sharp corners, two had very small dents, now heat-pressed to square, lightly visible. Spine is Fine, perfect lettering, no creasing, UNREAD. Pages are clean, with no writing or folding, very light age tanning as is common in this title, but this copy MUCH, MUCH less so. Dust Jacket is Fine, VERY RARE for this fragile jacket, Protected in a clear archival sleeve. £12.99 Price is intact. This is the True First UK Hardcover, often called the "adult edition" (only because of the dust Jacket artwork, no changes to the story), published three weeks before The Bodley Head "children's" or "young adult" edition.
