Published by Putnam in 1963, here is the first hardback printing of Commander C.R. Vernon Gibbs' British Passenger Liners of the Five Oceans. Blue cloth binding, gilt lettering, 559 pages, glossy illustrations/photographs throughout, the book contains an addendum booklet at the rear of the book and a signed, initialled typed letter at the front of the book, showing that the Commander was not overly happy with the original publication. The author has also left a signed and dated dedication to a bookplate on the front pastedown showing that he might have gifted this book, from his own collection to a dear friend. The book is in good condition with some moderate spine creasing and some light browning to the end papers. The dust jacket is also good with some general staining (mainly to the insides and spine) plus some rubbing and chipping to the top edge. The clear plastic film protecting the jacket has also lifted on the front cover. All in all a rare offering.
