Director Peter Hall's copy, SIGNED by him and dated 1956 on the front endpaper and with the note "Fire Down Below" written by him on the bottom of the page. Illustrated with a photograph from the production. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize. In 1955, Hall introduced London audiences to the work of Samuel Beckett with the UK premiere of WAITING FOR GODOT. The production's success transformed his career overnight and attracted the attention of, among others, Tennessee Williams, for whom he would direct the London premieres of CAMINO REAL (1957) and CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF (1958). Hall founded the Royal Shakespeare Company and was its director from 1960 to 1968. He went on to build an international reputation in theatre, opera, film, and television. His obituary in THE TIMES described him as "the most important figure in British theatre for half a century." Fine in a close to Fine dustwrapper with some foxing on the rear panel.
