A brilliant production by Jess Mott: Regular-sized volume format. Pictorial softcovers with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Art Shay. Introduction by David Mamet. Original 8 X 10 inch silver-gelatin print encased in its own protective sheet and laid into the slipcase. Gray cloth slipcase with photographic reproduction pasted on one side. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Published on the occasion of the retrospective exhibition of the same name held at the Stephen Daiter Gallery Chicago from March 9 through May 26, 2007. Presents, in its earliest-state, Artist Proof format, Art Shay's "Chicago Accent". A delectable sampling of his enormous body of work. Culled from an output of over 25, 000 published photographs, which are now in the Permanent Collection of National Portrait Gallery of Art Washington, DC. The Catalog includes classic images that have previously appeared (notably the iconic Nelson Algren photographs) as well as images that appear for the first time in catalog form. It ends, heartbreakingly, with "Harmon In The Snow, 1955", a portrait of his son (and Nelson Algren's godson), who died in 1972 at the age of 21. An absolute "must-have" title for Art Shay collectors. This is a copy of the Artist Proof of 5 numbered and signed copies, indicated/numbered as such on the Front Cover Limitation Flap: "A/P 5/5". It is very boldly and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the title page by Art Shay. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. Although not called for, it is also very prominently and beautifully signed in blue ink-pen on his Contribution by David Mamet. Laid-in is a 10 X 8 inch original silver-gelatin print of "Duel Between Nelson Algren And Marcel Marceau, 1955", which is very prominently and beautifully studio-stamped, numbered, and signed in black ink-pen on verso by Art Shay. The print is the lovely Cover Image. This title is a contemporary photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only Artist Proof Copy available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Precedes and should NOT be confused with both the Limited Slipcased Edition and regular trade edition. A rare signed copy thus. 45 plates, 1 original print. One of the finest American photographers of the 20th century. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ART SHAY AND LEE BALTERMAN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG).…
