First impression of the true first edition, with the full number-string sequence on the printer's page: 1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2. This copy signed in black felt-tip pen by the author on the title-page. A Detective Inspector Charlie Resnick novel. ***Very good in black cloth-covered boards with block-gilt titles to the spine. The boards are clean and unmarked. No bumps or creases - just slight creasing to the tail of the spine. Corners sharp. Very slight reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Page block edges slightly marked and foxed - mainly the fore-edge. Internally also very good with no inscriptions other than the author's signature on the title page. Paper stock lightly tanned. No creases or tears. ***In a very good colour illustrated dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of £12.99. No creases, chips or tears - just slight creasing to the top and bottom corners of the front flap. Three removed price stickers to the front panel of the dustwrapper have left some ghosting - only discernible if viewed at an angle. No fading. Dustwrapper clean and bright. ***240mm x 160mm. 405 pages including acknowledgements at the back of the book. ***'In 2007 John Harvey was the winner of the CWA Cartier Diamond Dagger award for sustained excellence in the (crime) genre. He also won the CWA Silver Dagger Award in 2004. (Wiki) ***'Harvey is a master craftsman' - Guardian (Quote taken from the front panel) ***'If anyone deserves to nudge Ian Rankin from his post as Britain's bestselling crime writer, it's Harvey.' - Kirkus Review (Quote taken from the back panel) ***A very good copy of the first impression of the true first edition, flat-signed by the author. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.…

On Valentine’s Day, Lynn Kellogg was shot and survived. The teenage girl standing next to her was less fortunate.
Recently promoted to Detective Inspector in the city’s Major Crime Unit, Lynn’s rescue of a badly-beaten fifteen-year old from eastern Europe links her to an international investigation into people trafficking and gun smuggling, and teams her up with SOCA — the Serious and Organized Crime Agency — for the first time. Just when everything seems to be progressing smoothly, things start to go wrong, leaving Lynn with serious doubts about the integrity of the SOCA officers in charge. And when DI Charlie Resnick rouses himself from near-retirement to lend a hand, he finds he’s blocked at every turn.
Finally, it needs the intervention of Jack Kiley, former cop and soccer player turned private eye, before a way can be found through a miasma of murder and betrayal with mortal danger at each and every turn.
