Profusely illustrated with b&w photographs. "The object of this text is to provide a quick reference for identification of .22 calibre handguns produced from the mid 1850s to approximately 1880. This covers the 'developmental' period. For ease of use, comments on text format first appear, then listings of individual pieces withn each category, then a few introductory notes. Brief remarks concerning the men and companies who produced the pistols follow. Finally, the body of the text, wherein the individual pieces are described." from the Preface. A 2" light liquid stain on the front endpapers, a light liquid stain on the fore-edge of the text block, a very small chip and a small liquid stain at the fore-edge of the rear pastedown, light wrinkling at the top/bottom of the spine, minor corner wear, very small bump at the top corner of the boards.
