First Edition. In the publisher's original green cloth with gold and black stamping; top edge in blue. Dust jacket is unclipped, protected in mylar, with minor wear at the heal and foot of the spine and some foxing on the fold of the flap. Overall very solid. pp. 642 Inscribed and signed on the front endpaper: "Sarah Day Faris from Robert Frost / South Miami, Florida February 23 1951" At the time of this inscription, Frost wintered in South Miami at his longtime Florida home, Pencil Pines. Beneath the signature is the faint outline of a removed tape and label; the name Sarah Day Faris is still lightly visible in block letters. Sarah may have been a young fan-or a member of a household that admired Frost's poetry-when she received this personal inscription. On the last endpaper is a pasted clipping of a Frost poem, possibly saved by Sarah or someone in her family, adding a charming, personal touch to this copy. As one can see a much cherished copy.
