Add to basketBritish first edition (per Jonathan Cape's "First published . . ." statement upon copyright page) SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. xiv, 428, [1] pages. Hardcover: H 21.5cm x L 14cm. Dust jacket rubbed with nicks at edges; light staining along bottom margins of spine and panels; front flap retains publisher's printed price at bottom right; older trimmed mylar sheet present as a dj protector. Dark brown boards; vibrant gilt stamping to spine; slight bumping to spine heel; aforementioned dj staining only faintly visible at front board's bottom margin. Red colored top edge; several small faint stains to fore-edge. Author's ink signature "William Styron" upon title page; interior leaves are otherwise clean. Binding retains some crispness. Although without any markings as such, this book was acquired from the estate collection of Curtis Carson Holloman Jr. (1939-1991) who served on the English Department faculty at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, Mississippi. Most of Professor Holloman's books had author signatures acquired at literary events held at the University of Mississippi in Oxford but this British edition may well have been acquired from a dealer instead. {LitShelf#6|CMS-00183}.
