Inscribed first edition of one of Popper's most important philosophical works. In CONJECTURES AND REFUTATIONS, Popper argues that scientific knowledge evolves through a process of trial and error, not through intuition or pure reason. Building on his famous concept of falsifiability first introduced in THE LOGIC OF SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY (1934), Popper says theories originate as guesses or hypotheses (conjectures) that are then tested and criticized (refutations). A major work from one of the 20th century's most popular and influential minds, it is scarce signed. 9'' x 6''. Original full orange cloth. In original unclipped ($10.00) printed jacket. 412 pages. Inscribed by Popper on the front free endpaper: "To Bruno from Karl / New Year, 1966-1967." Spine and top edge of jacket sunned. Small closed tear to front flap. Some shelfwear, rubbing to extremities. Bit of sunning to edges of cloth. Overall, clean and sound. Very good plus in a very good jacket.
