About this Item
First edition.Often mistakenly referred to as "The Curse OF the Colophon". The author was a celebrated professor of Greek who was internationally known for his translation of the New Testament. The deciphering of codes, manuscripts and the unraveling of the mysteries contained therein had been part of his life-work! He also loved a good mystery story. This was the only one he wrote! A classic of the bibliomystery genre. He introduces us to an American scholar who is warned by his colleagues of a "curse in the colophon" of a recently discovered and famous manuscript. He and his young female colleague defy the curse, decipher a hidden message ( first use of ultra-violet light to read underwriting!), and race to find .the lost library of Constantinople!Top edge stain (blue-grey) mostly faded. The pale blue boards ,with black lettering, are faded at the edges and the spine. I have never seen a copy without both the jacket spine and book spine exhibiting some fading.VERY GOOD+ book (previous owner's neat name to front pastedown , in VERY GOOD + jacket ( closed tears at the spine and tiny chips to base of same ) SIGNED by the author on the title page. No BIBLIOMYSTERY collection should be without this terrific book! Seller Inventory # JD4870
