Garden City: Doubleday & Company, 1961. First Edition, stated. Octavo (24cm); illustrated dust jacket with $5.95 price intact; brick cloth boards with gilt lettering; 429pp; illustrations by Mircea Vasiliu. Jacket shows a closed tear at top front, with some general scuffing, smudging, and spotting to surface; heavier foxing to verso. Boards rubbed at bottom edge and nudged at spine ends. Light toning to endpapers along glueline. Binding is sound and pages unmarked. Signed by Chase to fellow journalist and radio commentator Olive Clapper with inscription "For Olive Clapper - Tit for tat - and many thanks for her kindness and affection. I am so glad they (?) are both _fat_ books - Ilka Chase / October 1961." Clapper's memoir One Lucky Woman was published one month prior.
