Octavo, four-volume box set. Full black morocco binding, title in gilt on spines. Full number line listed on Volumes II, III, and IV, no additional printings noted in Volume I. Solid text blocks, touch of rubbing to covers, otherwise fine. Includes the publisher's matching slipcase, with title on front panel. Inscribed in Volume I: "For Bill / You have the fair --- ! / Herb Stern." Additionally inscribed in Volume IV: "For Bill --- / with best wishes. Herb Stern." Herbert J. Stern is an American trial lawyer, former federal prosecutor, and former United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey. Appointed to the federal bench in 1973, Stern later presided over United States v. Tiede, the only case tried in the United States Court for Berlin, an experience he recounted in Judgment in Berlin. After leaving the bench, he returned to private practice as a founding partner of Stern Kilcullen & Rufolo.
