First edition. Small quarto. 159pp. Pictorial boards. A touch of rubbing at the spine ends, very near fine in rubbed and moderately worn very good dust jacket with some modest chips and tears. Signed on the title page, and additionally Inscribed by the Black Mountain poet and noted potter on the front fly: "For Benjamin Minifie, who came to visit me - M.C.R. November 5, 1966 - 'Within us lives a merciful being who helps us to our feet however many times we fall.' page 8." The recipient, Benjamin Minifie, was the Rector of Grace Church in Greenwich Village and an outspoken progressive activist. An uncommon first edition, and especially so signed.
