Frontispiece lithograph. Foreword by Marc Chagall, notes by Fernand Mourlot. The bold inscription covers the whole right side of the half-title. "Pour Robert Marin Souvenir" with blue, underlined signature of Marc Chagall, and several red decorative elements below signature at bottom of page. Striking first volume of what would eventually become a 6-volume catalogue raisonné of Chagall's lithographs. This catalogue contains and is complete with its 12 original lithographs (including frontispiece and dust-jacket) designed by the artist. This first volume of Chagall s collected lithographs was followed by five successive volumes in series. Volume I, which contains 12 of the original 28 lithographs published throughout the series, is extremely desirable. All volumes published simultaneously in English, French and German.
