Rare signed first edition, second state with five-line colophon and matching original wrapper without isbn number at back. Charming, original illustration throughout this first edition by Joseph Schindelman. Includes the infamous Oompa-Loompa illustrations (excised in later editions). Dark red full cloth boards, sharp embossed title design at front board, bright gilt spine titles, moderate shelf wear, discoloration, spine rub. Chocolate colored top-stain, fine. Pages very good, clean and remaining bright. Mustard endpapers. Bind fine, square; hinges intact.
