About the Author: DAVID G. FITZGERALD, a longtime Oklahoma resident, has been a professional photographer for three decades. His work can be found in numerous periodicals and seven books, including OKLAHOMA II (page 78) and BISON: MONARCH OF THE PLAINS (page 66).
Cherokee author ROBERT J. CONLEY has written more than fifty books, including the novels The Peace Chief and War Woman. A three-time winner of the Spur Award, he lives in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, the capital of the Cherokee Nation.
