About this Item
Citadel Values: Essays for Contemplation by Robert E. Freer, Jr. was published by the Author, in cooperation with The Citadel Foundation and The Krause Initiative, in 2007. Not an ex-library copy, this 5 1/4" X 8 1/4", 97-page, Signed, softcover First Edition offering is in VG- condition. The book, overall, is in like-new, crisp shape, but the last page of the Introduction, and the first page of the Author's Forward, each have an approximately 4 3/4"-long, diagonal crease located in the upper right corner, in both instances. This offering is so tight and crisp, it may not have been read or used more than once, Reader. The book is SIGNED between the title and the author's name on the main Title Page. This would seem to be a 97-page treatise all intended to convey one simple but profound message to all past, current, and future cadets at The Citadel: "We've got to do better, whatever it is we do as our life's work", or, "If you think you're doing your best as a role model for today's youth, think again, and rededicate yourself to doing that much better in your day-to-day strivings". All of this designed to make what the author sees as a struggling, declining America stronger and more resilient in the face of a most challenging future confronting us. The previously-mentioned Introduction is the contribution of Maj. General John S. Grinalds, USMC Ret., and who served as the 18th President of The Citadel. Freer, Jr.'s sincerely offered collection of essays is organized in six parts: "Leaders of Principle", "Duty, Honor, Country", "One Nation Under God", "Holiday Spirit", "A Nation of Laws", and, finally, "Faith Reaffirmed". You will most certainly find yourself raised up and inspired to begin doing great things in your life, Reader, if you can somehow conquer the overwhelming feelings of guilt that the author will simultaneously summon from your very being! Thank you!!
