8vo. Cloth in spine faded DJ. Inscribed "For David Prentice an old friend with many memories and all best wishes Love William S. Burroughs." David Prentice was a close friend of Burroughs during his later New York years. An artist, with ties to Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, among others, Prentice assisted Burroughs in building an orgone accumulator (sometimes called an orgone machine or an orgone box). Burroughs felt spending time in them helped with his addictions. A photocopy of Prentice's drawing for his "deluxe" orgone accumulator is laid in - the original drawing dates to 1974 when Burroughs moved back to NYC and resided in a large loft at 77 Franklin Street. The orgone accumulator was the brainchild of Wilhem Reich, who conceived of "orgone energy" as a primal life force connected to both physical and mental health. The boxes were designed to collect and amplify the energy.
