True first British printing (full print run includes '1'). With original unclipped jacket (£14.99). Signed by the author in blue ink directly to title page without dedication. Jacket has minor patchy edge/shelf wear, the odd very small mark, one very small (approx. 3mms) tear to front near upper corner, the odd small crease/rub to edges, minor pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine and to corners and the odd small mark to reverse (white side). Boards are near fine (having been well protected by the jacket) with minor pushing/bumping to a couple of corners and a hint of pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Pages are (very) tanned (due to quality of paper used). One light scratch/mark to bottom edge of most pages. Very occasional small mark to pages. About the Author

John McGahern was the author of five highly acclaimed novels and four collections of short stories. His novel Amongst Women won the GPA Book Award and the Irish Times Award, was short-listed for the Booker Prize, and was made into a four-part BBC television series. He had been a visiting professor at Colgate University and at the University of Victoria, British Columbia, and was the recipient of the Society of Authors’ Award, the American-Irish Award, and the Prix Étrangère Ecureuil, among other awards and honors. His work appeared in anthologies and was translated into many languages. He died in 2006.
