1954 FIRST PRINTING of First Edition. SIGNED on short-title page by "E.P. Hillary", "Charles Evans", "George Lowe", "Louise Hillary", and "George Band'. Included with the book is a flyer for the event where the book was signed, a 10 February 1954 lecture at the Geographical Society of Philadelphia. The flyer confirms the presence of Edmund Hillary, Louise Hillary, Charles Evans, and George Lowe, establishing that these signatures are contemporary to the year of publication of the book. It is likely the George Band signed this book at a later date since there is no evidence that he ever joined the others on the lecture tour across the USA. All signatures are strong and in pen (no fading). Original blue cloth covers & tan cloth spine. The flyer has 7 printed pages including the front cover. The book has a few tiny light marks to the blue areas of the covers but is generally quite clean and bright. There are no previous owner marks or writing on any pages other than the aforementioned signatures. The binding is tight. There is no foxing on pages or fore-edges. The original dust jacket has usual fading to the spine area, small loss at spine ends and tips of corners, tiny loss upper front edge, retains original printed price on front flap corner. The original flyer has light foxing to the front cover, no writing or marks, slightly rusted staples.
