First American edition, published first in London under the title The Ascent of Everest; 8vo, pp. xx, 300; 8 color plates, including the frontispiece), 48 black & white 6 maps, illustrations in the text by Charles Evans, 9 appendices, and a glossary; nice copy in an unclipped dust jacket which shows a touch of wear at the extremities, 2 or 3 insignificant breaks, and a slight creases in the front and back panel. Early ownership signature of Marjorie Hofman. In a sense, the quintessential mountaineering book - the first successful ascent of the highest and most iconic peak in the world. I read this book as a teenager and I've been fascinated by whole body of mountaineering literature ever since, the Himalayas especially, mountains one has to see to believe. Yakushi H470b.
