Inscribed First Edition, First Printing of this collection of observations on American government and the personalities of leaders in the first six decades of the 20th century by legendary journalist Arthur Krock. Arthur Krock was the one of most powerful journalists in the World War II and early post World War II eras in Washington, D.C. -- a period when the top newspaper people were at the center of the action. He was a three time Pulitzer Prize winner and longtime Washington Bureau Chief of the New York Times. In a career that began before the outbreak of World War I, he met 11 different presidents but was most famously associated with John F. Kennedy for whom he was arguably the top ally in the press corps. This copy is inscribed by Arthur Krock to Murdaugh S. Madden, a longtime Washington lawyer who represented individuals who fell under the shadow of the anti- Communist witchhunts of the 1950s and who served several decades as general counsel for the humane society. The inscription reads: "For Murdaugh S. Madden with the respect and affection of Arthur Krock, Washington, D.C. June 7, 1971." 309 pages, gray cloth. Has some dampstaining at the bottom of the book and dust jacket. Seller Inventory # 009915
