Add to basketThe first British edition of this collection of interviews by Ruas with a number of famous writers. SIGNED on the pages where their profile begins: Norman Mailer (page 18) and Paul Theroux (page 244.) Book is Very Good. Tight and straight with even pages. No writing, marks or bookplate and not BCE, ex-library or remaindered. There is an abrasion spot where an apparent price sticker has been removed on the first free endpaper - about the size of a nickel and one bumped tip, but otherwise very clean. Dust jacket is unclipped (£14.95) with light wear to spine head and mild rubbing to black background on back cover. Protected in a new Brodart Mylar cover. Included is a bookmark from Chapters Bookstore in Washington, DC with author page signing info on the back. Here are 14 conversational interviews with contemporary writers who talk about the nature of their craft, about their strengths and dilemmas, their need to write, and about themselves. Toni Morrison Norman Mailer Robert Stone Susan Sontag Scott Spencer Truman Capote Tennessee Williams E.L. Doctorow Gore Vidal Joseph Heller Paul Theroux William Burroughs Eudora Welty Marguerite Young "A lively seminar, a sensational literary cocktail party .the conversation is irresistible." ---Los Angeles Herald Examiner "Ruas displays the essential qualities of a first-rate interviewer: a thorough knowledge of, an irrepressible curiosity about, a profound sympathy for, and a respectful but unceremonious directness toward the authors and the works at hand." --The New York Times.
