A very scarce edition of Sir George Sitwell's Country Life in the Seventeenth Century with black and white illustrations throughout. Printed in 1901 by Sitwell at his private Scarborough press, this copy is signed by the author to a relative, William Hurt Sitwell. The armorial bookplate to the pastedown is that of Roger Simon Woodchurch Clarke, a member of the peerage. Old Country Life, as it is written to the spine, is concerned with landed gentry and their geneaology. Sir George Sitwell was an antiquarian writer and Conservative politician, father of Osbert, Sacheverell and Edith Sitwell. In a half morocco binding with patterned boards and gilt lettering to the spine. Externally, excellent with very slight cracking to the joints. Spotting to the endpapers, with an armorial bookplate to the pastedown. Internally, firmly bound with clean and bright pages. Very Good Indeed. Seller Inventory # LTH6-B-16
