An inscribed author's presentation copy of this very scarce work, with 'To Bishop Seabury from the Author, Aberdeen June 20th' to a front blank.The dedicatee, Samuel Seabury, was the first American Episcopal bishop, the second Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, and the first Bishop of Connecticut.The vanishingly scarce first edition of this work from prominent Scottish Episcopal bishop, Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, and a noted author and poet, John Skinner.ESTC T104587[2], A-T6, U4. Collated, complete.Rebound in cloth, with endpapers renewed. Library bookplates of the General Theological Seminary to pastedowns. An impressive and very scarce collection of lectures on the catechisms and other theological subjects, intended to be read to the young during lent. Rebound in cloth, with endpapers renewed. Externally, fine. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Bookplates to front and rear pastedowns. Author's inscription to a front blank, which is tenderly held to the tail only. Internally, generally firmly bound, but with gathering A tenderly held. Pages significantly age toned, with instances of foxing. Good.
