8vo., 301pp. Beautiful Stated First Edition of this classic from a master of the weird and macabre. Though with several of Merritt's tales, this straddles the line between horror/fantasy and crime/mystery fiction. This was the Crime Club's Selection of the Month for October, 1934 that was sent to subscribers. Bound in black cloth with lettering and decoration in green on spine. Green top-stain. Square, tight and clean throughout with just a touch of softness to the spine ends and a hint of edge-wear. No toning or spotting to pages. Remarkably well-preserved. Equally attractive unclipped dust-jacket, ($2.00), has some quite mild wear to the crown and very light mild surface rubbing. Fresh and bright with no creases, chipping, toning or tears. Inscribed generically, and signed by the author on the title page, :Shadows creep, A. Merritt". Comes housed in a cloth clamshell box and the previous owner has taped re-sized reproductions of the jacket art on the spine and front panel. A simply gorgeous collectable copy of a quite uncommon book, scarce in dust-jacket and in such nice condition, and signed copies are rare. More pictures on request.
