"Set in Burford and Oxford, Middleham and York, and round about Poole harbour, the story brings together a hitherto inexplicable name on an Attainder bill, a but now discovered house of Sir James Tyrrell's in the Burford Valley, and the finding of a body in the secret chamber of Lord Lovel's castle 200 years its coming there". This copy inscribed and signed "from the author" to Oxford City librarian John Wells at front endpaper.
