This is an abridged version of Reedstrom's BUGLES, BANNERS & WAR BONNETS, which study of Custer won the Spur Award for non-fiction from the Western Writers of America. It covers a portion of the Indian strategy, their preparations for battle, with war paint, smoke signals, the use of a blanket in the field, war horses and sign language. Also included is Sitting Bull's description of the Battle of the Little Big Horn, an account not often seen in print, which makes this volume of even greater interest not only to historians but also to Western buffs of every stripe. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs, and with line drawings by Reedstrom.
