About this Item
First edition, scarce hardcover issue. One of "50 Specially Bound Copies" with label pasted to colophon stating as such SIGNED BY editor/publisher KENNETH J. KRUEGER (in red). First separate edition of Lovecraft's posthumously published novella combining "elements of horror and fantasy into an epic tale that illustrates the scope and wonder of humankind's ability to dream" (Wikipedia). Introduction by George T. Wetzel. Published in a total edition of 1,500 numbered copies, this one being numbered 413. None of the copies (hardbound or softbound) were issued in any particular sequence (hence the number "413"), and there would seem to have been more than 50 hardbound copies, as they sometimes show up without the label signed by Krueger. 8vo black cloth lettered in gilt on spine; 107 pages plus colophon leaf. In Currey's later-issue yellow dust jacket with the "Abbott Road" address printed at bottom of back cover [Currey, p.322] -- though it should be noted that all the hardbacks seem to be in this jacket, which appears to have been made specifically to fit the hardcover issue (vs. the softcover). Fine in near fine dust jacket with small chip to lower edge front panel. An unusually nice copy of a Lovecraft rarity. Seller Inventory # 55404
