Dust jacket has scrapes, tears, edgewear, and nicks, now in a protective mylar sleeve. Book has minor shelfwear and faint toning to the pageblock-- not bad for a more than 90-year-old book! Previous owner's stamp on the first free endpaper. The story of a young Navaho boy as he learns his people's customs and religion and undergoes with them their 1864 exile to Bosque Redondo (Fort Sumner) under Colonel Kit Carson and return home to Arizona in 1868. By the late artist, photographer, and Newbery Medal- and Caldecott Honor-winning author of "Waterless Mountain" and "The Forest Pool". Rare signed.
