8vo, publisher's boards, dustwrapper in the trademark Plasti-Kleer jacket cover, 224pp. First edition. Inscribed at the first leaf: "For Long John -- / Homage from a / convert / Lester Del Rey / Jan. 12, 1959". Inscription is to Long John Nebel (1911-1978) longtime New York city radio show host (WOR, WNBC, WMCA) whose overnight programs featured segments on the odd and occult, particularly UFOs. Nebel later married model Candy Jones (see Bain's "The Control of Candy Jones" for details of Ms. Jones' unwilling work for the CIA). A VG/VG copy: the boards are clean and the titling is bright but the black edging of the Plasti-Kleer wrapper has offset to the edges; the hinges and joints are tight and sound; the text is clean, unmarked, undamaged; the wrapper is unclipped but mildly foxed with a touch of rippling from its long stay in the publisher's tight encasement of Plasti-Kleer; small chipped loss to the Plasti-Kleer at the rear.
