First USA Edition. (First printed by Hamish Hamilton, London 1966) Oblong 8vo. [ 32pp. ] Bound in pictorial paper covered boards, illustrated throughout in colour by Ardizzone. On front loose endpaper is the Surrealist bookplate of Andrew Murray. SIGNED by the artist, Edward Ardizzone. With the pictorial dust wrapper, clipped, with minimal wear along top edge of wrapper, otherwise a very good copy, almost fine copy. Scarce. Size 187 x 245mm (7.5 x 9.5 inches) Once a long time ago there was a very horrible dragon that settled itself in a swamp near a city and began to eat up the people who lived nearby… Provenance: Andrew Murray, Director of Mayor Gallery, Cork Street, London. The Mayor Gallery exhibited Ardizzone s work in the 1960 s . Andrew Murray lent his personal collection of books and prints etc. to the travelling exhibition by Middlesbrough Museum in 1982.
