This book documents his four years of work as a missionary, the trials he faced and the people he met. With an introduction by Sir John Kennaway, a Conservative politician and Member of Parliament. He was also the President of the Church Missionary Society, which sent Lloyd to Africa. Signed by the author to the recto of front endpaper 'With love and Every Good Wish from Albert B Lloyd'. With a frontispiece, thirteen plates, and a further one-hundred and thirty-three in text illustrations and photographs. Collated; complete. In the original publisher"s cloth binding. Externally, sound. Light rubbing to the boards and spine, and fading to the spine. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. Hinges are tender. Tidemark to the front board. Gilt to the front board and spine have faded. Tidemarks and damp staining to the front pastedown and to the recto of the front endpaper, and to a couple of pages throughout. Front endpaper is loosening at hinge. Offsetting to the rear pastedown. Signed by the author to the blank page, "With love & every good wish, from Albert B Lloyd, … 19th 99", and a prior owner"s ink inscription alongside "Mary Masters". Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright. The odd spot and odd instance of damp staining throughout. Good Only. Seller Inventory # 598P13
