Title page undated, published in London by Frederick Warne, this is a handsomely produced and beautifully illustrated long historical poem by Owen Meredith, the pen name of Edward Robert Lytton Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Earl of Lytton, GCB, GCSI, GCIE, PC (8 November 1831 ? 24 November 1891) who was an English statesman, Conservative politician, and poet (who used the pseudonym Owen Meredith). He served as Viceroy of India between 1876 and 1880?during his tenure Queen Victoria was proclaimed Empress of India?and as British Ambassador to France from 1887 to 1891 this copy of this illustrated edition of his work was presented by The Earl of Lytton to the Princess of Monaco, with his presentation inscription to the half title page the book is a large format measuring 12.5 inches by 9.75 inches approx. the books cover has generally darkened with some marking, edge wear rubbing with some fraying and splits to the cloth on the spine, with some loss to cloth at spine ends, internally endpapers foxed and browned, a few minor marks else contents in nice general condition, this is a larger than average book, overseas shipping costs will be higher than the basic standard quote.
