FIRST EDITION 1784, SIGNED BY LAWRENCE RICKARD WAGER (see below). 8vo, 210 x 130 mm, 8¼ x 5 inches, pages: xviii, 1- 412, full contemporary calf, red title label with gilt lettering between raised bands to spine, gilt rules to spine. Slight chipping to head of spine, 1 page has pale marks to lower outer corner, endpapers lightly foxed, 4 pages have a light crease to top corners, otherwise a very good clean copy. Neat ink name to top of first free endpaper: L. R. Wager, that is Lawrence Rickard Wager, commonly known as Bill Wager, (1904 1965) a British geologist, explorer and mountaineer, described as "one of the finest geological thinkers of his generation" and best remembered for his work on the Skaergaard intrusion in Greenland, and for his attempt on Mount Everest in 1933 (Wikipedia).
