Emmet Gowin was born and raised in Danville, Virgina; you can smell the intimate and gothic fragrance of the south in this earlier work. This book, upon publication, set the photographic world on a new course and predicted a modern master. Gowin's first commercially published monograph with images from 1963 - 1974.
