Old Abe (named after President Lincoln) accompanied the 8th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment, carried into battles and skirmishes on a special perch, and saw action across Missouri, Mississippi and Louisiana. Of this great bird, Confederate General Sterling Price remarked, ''that bird must be captured or killed at all hazards, I would rather get that eagle than capture a whole brigade or a dozen battle flags.'' Old Abe's story began in 1861 when, still just an eaglet, he was captured by an Indian and then sold to the militia known as the Eau Claire Badgers (later incorporated into the Eighth Wisconsin). Old Abe survived the war and lived until 1881. Seller Inventory # 015195
