Earth Online: Internet Guide to the Earth Sciences

This is the first Internet guide written exclusively for the earth sciences. Whether this text is used for Internet homework exercises, lab exercises or strictly for students to explore on their own time, Earth Online will open students eyes to the wealth of information that is literally at their fingertips. The earth scientist rarely investigates a problem within the confines of just one discipline, thus the vast resources and connectivity of the Internet gives earth scientists an information framework to conduct their work. Earth Online provides the tool to get your students up and running on the Internet while providing guidance and exercises to immediately apply what they have learned by visiting the Earth Online home page and chatting with the author. Within a few hours, students will learn how to venture on virtual field trips around the planet, view the latest satellite images, explore educational sites, access up-to-the-minute research data, participate in online communities, and delve into the volcanoes of Hawaii; experiencing the dynamic processes within the earth sciences. The skills they will gain by working through Earth Online will be applicable to any follow-up earth science courses as well as any other college course.
