Original pale purple cloth, ruled and decorated in gilt and black, cream endpapers, yellow silk book marker. Backstrip and covers faded, tiny frays to the head and tail of the backstrip, tanning of the photo mount plates otherwise a VG copy inscribed on the ffep 'Presented to Miss Agnes Penny . With the Author's Compliments. Waterford, May, 1873.'. First edition. It seems probable that this copy was presented to a relative of the publisher. Pages 67 to 130 deal with Ireland.
