Synopsis

Only a few books have touched on the operations of the Public Relations units of the armed forces overseas and the conducting officers assigned to the correspondents in combat zones. Here is a detailed account by Jack Donoghue who gained PR experience during the War through his officer training in Canada, his assignment to No. 3 PR Unit in Europe and his service as assistant editor of The Maple Leaf, the daily newspaper for our overseas forces. It is a highly personal record and running through it is "a love story" - his attachment to his wife Colleen and his infant daughter Kathleen (Midge), at home reflected in the warmth of their letters back and forth in the final year of the war.
